Chamber History

Wakefield and Lynnfield’s business communities have a long history of working together to promote local businesses and help the communities thrive.  Local leaders first organized the Wakefield Chamber of Commerce in 1921, but chamber activity virtually stopped during the Depression. However, local organizations and leaders continued to support business in Wakefield. The present Chamber of Commerce was formed after an organization working to advance local industry merged with a group promoting the town’s commercial interests. In 1934, the Wakefield Chamber of Commerce became an official corporation in Massachusetts, organized to promote the business interests and the civic, economic and social welfare of the people of Wakefield.
